Career Item 6:

April, 1997 to June, 2009 – Systems Engineer / Consultant with Supply Technologies aka ILS aka Arden Fasteners

Arden migrated from Unisys A-Series (Lawson) ERP System to Unisys U6000 UNIX (TREND) ERP System.  Arden was acquired by Park Ohio Holdings Company (PKOH), headquartered in Cleveland, in 2001 and merged with RB&W to become ILS – Integrated Logistics Solutions.  In 2005, Park Ohio acquired NABS, merged with ILS creating Supply Technologies (click for history).

Supply Technologies has 40 warehouses worldwide, distributing fasteners to major manufacturers.  All sites are networked using MPLS and VPN methods.

 

As a Consultant / Systems Engineer, I was part of a team responsible for the company’s Enterprise Network containing multiple domains.  My main areas of expertise for Supply Technologies were UNIX and Email.  I held lead or co-lead responsibilities and 24x7 support for:

·         Engineering and Administration of Enterprise Network

o   Infrastructure Design, Planning, Testing, Implementation and Review

o   Performance and Growth Monitoring – CPU, Memory, I/O, Disk Usage, Database, Network

o   Capacity Planning and Management

o   Disaster Recovery

o   UNIX ERP System using Progress/OpenEdge

o   Windows 2003 Servers, Active Directory and Group Policies

o   Exchange 2007, 2003 and 5.5

o   Windows Terminal Servers with Citrix and Global Secure Desktop (Tarantella)

o   Cisco Routers, Switches and PIX (Firewall)

o   PCs, Printers, Terminals, RF Devices, Thin Clients, etc.

·         Scheduling and verifying system backups using Unix ‘cpio’ and Symantec Backup Exec

·         Created System Monitoring and Notification System using PERL, Shell and VB Scripts

·         Created Scripted Reports for Auditors and for meeting SOX and ISO Requirements

·         Installed NFS and Security for sharing UNIX files to other Servers and PC’s

·         Co-Leader for merging Saint Paul and Cleveland Data Centers into one new Data Center

·         Replaced Character Terminals with Thin Client PCs for Migration from Unix Character to Web GUI System

·         Trained Help Desk staff in use of Active Directory and Exchange Management Console

·         Installed ISA 2006 servers in Cleveland and St. Paul for WEB Publishing, Firewall and VPN

·         Install and Maintain Barracuda Appliances for E-mail Anti-spam

·         Setup virtual server (VMWare) for E-mail system

·         Migration of Post.Office, Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2003 Accounts into Exchange 2007

·         Created E-Mail Search routine and Mailbox Information Reports using Exchange Powershell

·         Converted from Dynix/ptx Unix on Unisys U6000 to Unixware on ES2085

·         Acquired Systems responsibilities for AIX, HP-UX and Linux Servers

o   For migration after new companies were acquired, usually 3-6 months each

·         Responsible for moving the TREND ERP system from St. Paul to Cleveland
